How to Use a Grease Gun: Step by Step Guide
If you use machines, those have rotatory equipment; it is essential to use grease on them. It helps the machine to function smoothly. Therefore, the machines become capable of working as if it is new.
Minimizing the abortion rate, lubricates maximizes the life of the machine. But if you are not known about the proper way of using a grease gun, efficiency from your machine will be less and depreciation will be higher. So, I am here to talk about how to use a grease gun properly.
Types of the Grease Gun
Before I describe the greasing process, I’m willing to tell you that, there are several types of the grease gun. Depending on their type their using is different. So, what are the types of grease gun?
Here is the answer:
2. Air powered (Pneumatic) grease gun.
3. Auto (Battery featured) grease gun.
Load the Grease Gun Properly
To use a grease gun, you need to load it correctly. To load, at first, you need to remove the head from the barrel. Then pull the T handle. Therefore, securing the handle, insert the new cartridge into it.
Before putting the new cartridge, cleaning it from old cartridge will be very helpful. Unseal the new cartridge.
Then, Reattach the cap with the barrel. Before making the adjustment too tight make it air free. It is crucial. Therefore, pump the handle and release the air fuzz. After the air is released, the grease gun will be stable pressured.
When it is fully loaded, latch the rod at the end the cap. Therefore it will not spring back automatically.
Choose the Location
You are not going to put grease everywhere in the machine. At first target the rotatory part of the machine. Use the grease gun to lubricate the selective parts.
At first, check whether the grease gun is working smoothly or not. Afterward, connect the grease gun nipple in the targeted location. Now, determine which quantity of grease will be sufficient for the position. Build pressure through the hand crank.
When the sufficient pressure is built, pull the trigger. At this point, direct the lubricant to the targeted location through the nipple. On the other hand, you can pour lubricant by creating pressure through the piston down, at the end of the barrel. When the grease squeezes out from the ball joint, stop pumping.
Rather than using a hand cranking grease gun, pneumatic grease will be easier to use. If you want to use a battery functioning grease, maintain the time of pouring the grease to maintain the correct amount lubricant.
You can use a grease gun with a zerk fitting for more efficiency. Hence check the hose between the coupler and the grease gun is free from any damage.

Taking Care of the Grease Gun
If you want to use your grease gun to function smoothly, you have to take care of your grease gun. Clean the grease nipple. Pump out the excess grease after using. Therefore wash the grease nipple and dry it completely.
- Do not mix the old grease with the new one before using. Also, according to the type of the lubricant use different grease gun.
- Do not tighten up the head of the grease gun too much; it can cause the pressure failure in the grease gun. Excess pressure can harm the grease gun as well as the functioning of it.
- For your safety concern use a pair of gloves when you are using the grease gun. Therefore you can wear a glass too.
- Do not let the grease spills on your floor. Clean the work area after using the grease gun. If the grease spills on your floor, it can cause serious fall.
- Check, whether your grease is flammable or not. Most of the lubricants ate flammable. So, if it is, stay away from fire while lubricating.
Lubrication is an essential thing for the machines that rotates. It enhances the operation of the machine and also maximizes the lifetime of the machine. The use of a grease gun is the way to lubricate the machines. It is not messy but straightforward when you know the functioning of the grease gun. Always maintain some issues to be safe and keep your machines well lubricated.
